India’s Ministry of Environmental Protection says it is willing to reconsider Vedanta’s plan to expand its aluminum smelter

Reuters, 19: The Indian Minister of the Environment said on the 19th that he is willing to reconsider the plan of the Indian miner Vedanta Resources to expand the alumina refinery in Odisha State.


  In consideration of environmental issues, Jairam Ramesh of the Ministry of Environmental Protection rejected Vedanta’s application to expand alumina production in October 2010.


   It is reported that Vedanta has an alumina smelter with an annual capacity of 1 million tons in the state of Orissa, India. The company hopes to increase the capacity of the plant by 6 times.
